Handbalancing Intensive In Turkey

Join us for a full week of handbalancing and flexibility training, set amidst the beautiful countryside of Antalya in TADAH – Artist Habitat.

Since the release of the Handstand Factory we’ve had so much positive feedback and have been so proud of the amazing results that have been generated by people training with it.

The week will feature 5 jam-packed training days, 2 of which will also feature an afternoon excursion in the area surrounding Antalya. Each training day will feature a handstand and a flexibility session with Emmet and Mikael, intended to give you the tools and the knowledge that will guide your handstand practice for months to come, as well as having you train in an environment that allows for instant feedback and incredibly effective hands on instructing and a lot of time to ask questions. Evenings can be spent however you wish, with enough time for independent training, in-depth discussions with new friends or even just relaxing beside the pool with book in hand.

This intensive is perfect for students of the Handstand Factory – Push (Beginner) and Keep Pushing (intermediate) and Press programs!

Entry Requirements

You should feel reasonably comfortable going up into a wall handstand, and make sure your wrists, elbows and shoulders are conditioned enough for a week of handbalancing training. Skillswise, this intensive is open for complete beginners as well as intermediate handbalance practitioners up until a good 45s freestanding hold. The groups are kept small enough for individual adjustments of training to your specific level. If you are unsure about your level or which intensive to book, don’t hesitate to get in touch here. While training the Handstand Factory online programs is not a requirement, we do recommend it as it will prepare you to get the most out of the week learning from Emmet and Mikael.

Concepts and Skills Covered

We will be going deeper into the material of the Handstand Factory programs Push, Keep Pushing and Press. We will be covering the sections of the programs: Preparation for Handstands, Balance drills, Conditioning for Handstands, Entry to Handstand as well as explaining all the basic shapes, how to train and enter them efficiently, and how to change between them. We will also be looking at other things to consider, such as different leg co-ordinations, timing, rhythm and so forth.

We’ll also go into depth on the flexibility sections of the programs, mainly working on front folding but also covering the main principles of the flexibility training we use to gain any flexibility position such as front splits, bridge and deeper backbending, strengthening for mexican handstands as well as pancake, going from base levels of flexibility all the way to working on oversplits and overpancake.

Adding layers of progression to the above sections, and getting a better understanding of what you need to work on. Active prehab, rehab and recovery, mainly for shoulders, wrists and elbows. Daily Q&A’s on the day’s material to fully grasp and integrate it in your future training.

On our last day, we’ll have one big lecture on programming and smart training with a final Q&A. The Push Intensive is in line with the Push and Keep Pushing online programs.

The Location

This stunning intensive centre is based in beautiful Antalya in Turkey and will be our home for the week. A safe, beautiful and calm environment, surrounded by countryside, for you to concentrate on what our focus for the week is. The beach is located a short drive away, on the edge of the historical Turkish village of Side and surrounded by ancient ruins… the water colour and temperature alone is one of the many reasons to visit during your stay!

The gorgeous studio space we will be using has 12.6m by 7.9m floor space with a specialised dance floor and is surrounded by glass walls. It is open 24 hours!

Accommodations

The attention to detail and design of TADAH is amazing, with ample space to relax both inside in the cool interior or outside surrounded by lush vegetation. Nearly all the building materials of TADAH’s unique structure are up-cycled. Featuring beds made of beautiful reclaimed wood, toilet doors that used to be on hotel rooms and the glass walls of the training space were originally hotel fridge doors. Essentially, they have turned what would have been wasted into a haven for us to play in!!

Between classes there is the option to swim in the natural pool, lie on the sun deck, get a tour around the permaculture gardens, borrow a bike and ride to the local market (20mins)/beach (30mins) or chat with new friends in the many communal areas.

TADAH also has a beautiful and clean natural pool, with no need for chlorine… it’s akin to having a private swimming lake. Tucked away to the side of the pool, is a sauna. The sauna will be fired up on one evening of the event (included in cost).

Food and Transit

This intensive is fully catered with 3 meals a day plus snacks. You will have the option to choose between a vegan, vegetarian and a meat including menu, as well as specifying any intolerances or dietary needs.

You will notice strong Turkish and German influences in the food, but all with a very original twist. A lot of the food comes directly from TADAH’s own organic permaculture gardens!

While you will need to arrange your own flights to Antalya airport, transfers from and to Antalya airport will be organised for you. You will just need to make sure to let us know your arrival and departure details. Once you have signed up with the deposit, we will prompt you to send us all the information necessary.

Excursions

The week will feature 2 excursions into the area surrounding Antalya. One afternoon trip (food provided) to the beautiful local areas will be factored into the schedule for the week; including the beach, stunning canyons or a nice hike! In one location there is a walk down into the canyon with the option to swim in the crystal clear (and cold) waters for the brave! In another location we could hike/climb up to an 11th century castle on a hill.

The other trip will go to visit picturesque Roman ruins reclaimed by nature to have an epic photoshoot among the stunning scenery. Be it handstands, crazy splits or random poses, there are no limits to your creativity in creating some beautiful memories from our Handstand Factory intensive in Turkey!

Terms and Conditions Regarding COVID-19

With international travel restrictions changing rapidly, we understand it is difficult to plan ahead. To shed some light on our terms regarding Covid-19, please read our following measures to ensure a safe and fair handling of the global situation. Planning travel amidst Covid-19 is full of questions, and we will do our best to handle all coming changes in restrictions, travel and health advice as fair as possible. First of all, we ask everyone planning to attend to check with your travel insurance beforehand, in which cases you would be able to claim a refund of the intensive fee, as well as your travel costs. In regards to our own policy, we will refund the full course fee if a) you are unable to travel due to travel restrictions. This does NOT include a possible quarantine upon return to your home country – please factor this in to your travel plans. or b) due to medical conditions (such as Covid), or restricting your movements due to a close contact with a confirmed Covid-19 case. For this, we will ask for proof of the restrictions in place/a letter from your doctor or similar, as well as a letter from your insurance if they do not refund the intensive fee. We cannot offer any refunds on travel costs. If you cannot attend the intensive due to a cancelled flight, we ask you to rebook your travel (your travel insurance should cover this), as we will not be able to refund your course fee because of this. In case we have to cancel due to restrictions regarding Antalya, all course fees will of course be refunded. For this reason, we also ask you not to book your travel until closer to date, when we send out full confirmation of the events. However, for our April 2021 intensives we have surpassed minimum numbers, and are confident we will go ahead so long as Covid doesn’t get in the way short-notice. At the intensive itself, we will have all health and safety regulations in place, as well as a max. of 2 people per room. We will also ask everyone attending to take as much care as possible before the intensive, to ensure a safe and fun environment. We will be sending out further information on the measures we are taking onsite to all those attending.

Reviews of the Push Intensive

PUSH INTENSIVE

Genevieve
Montreal, Canada

So hi! My name is Genevieve Beaulieu, I’m coming from Montreal, Canada. I am a yoga teacher, so I’ve been doing yoga for maybe 6/7 years, but I’ve been kind of obsessed with handstands for about 2 years.

So, the training has been really amazing, it’s nice to come to a place where you can meet people, have the same passion, have the same fire as you. I’ve been training alone for a lot and people don’t really understand why I’m so obsessed with handstands and here everyone understands, they just want to train and be upside down and it’s really incredible to have this power, this energy.

I think I’m most proud of how quickly I can apply the tips I’ve been given, I haven’t been given a lot of tips recently because I’ve been training alone, so being given those tips to just do it on the spot has just really made me proud because I saw, on my self, the evolution that happened really quickly, so yeah, I’m pretty proud of what I can do.

I think my favourite thing about TADAH is the for sure the nature around here, I feel like I’m away from the city, I feel energised by this natural environment. The cold pool, natural pool is great, the food is great, it’s really relaxing, it’s really zen. I love it here.

What I’m taking back from here, what I think I’m bringing is a lot of energy, a lot of passion, a lot of fire. Even more than what I had! A lot of tips, a lot of excitement about handstands, which I used to have lots, but now it’s multiplied! I’m thinking, a lot of love from everyone around here, this energy and this community I think I’m taking with me.

Katie
Oregon, USA

Hi. My name is Katie. I come from Portland, Oregon and I started handstanding about a year ago, so in August of 2018. I’d done a little bit in yoga, before I started training full time, full time handstanding!

I like the training here at the push harder retreat, mainly because I feel like connecting with the community of other handbalancers has been the biggest benefit for me. I train alone a lot, so having the people around to kind of poke at you and show you things, like you may be training the same drills that you train at home but once you have people actually kind of hands on and working with you, then it just makes so much more sense and, yeah.

Not only that but I feel like I’ve been able to kind of push myself physically to limits that I wouldn’t normally be able to do, while training by myself.

So far, it’s only half way through the training, but what I’m most proud of, I would say, has been in some of my mobility gains, not thinking I’m the most mobile or flexible person and getting into the deepest form of my pancake or even into the backbending things like that, is what I’ve been most proud of.

My favourite thing about TADAH and the surrounding areas is that just the serenity, the beauty and the greenery, it’s beautiful natural lighting here. Uh, yeah it just feels like a community and kind of like a home.

What I’m taking home with me from this training? I think is mainly friendships and community and people I’ll always have connections with and obviously a ton of new skills and drills and things to train on my own and kind of hopefully work on throughout the next year and come back next year and nail it! (laughter)

PUSH & PUSH HARDER INTENSIVES

Kai
Germany

Hello, my name is Kai, I’m from Germany, I did gymnastics as a kid and I went to martial arts for a long long time and I found yoga for me and of course in yoga the most impressive asana is the handstand. So I found handstanding for me and since 2015, I’m on this journey and I like it.

So, I’m in a really lucky situation because I did first the push and the push harder retreat now and so far it’s amazing. In both groups there were amazing people so far and we had a super time!

I’m super proud to be here, to have made it, to get past all these ideas of that I’m not good enough for it through and to just went here and met creative people and do the things we love to do: stand on the hands and enjoy the journey, don’t think about “after the two weeks my one arm will be there, because I paid for it” now it’s just about having a good time, having new ideas for your program for the next 6 months, 6 years, who knows?

So I really like to be here at TADAH, because it’s more like a family place, like a circus place. Where it’s more about the humans and not so much the other stuff.

So from this retreat I take home, the reminder that life is too short and it’s not about getting all the stuff, it’s about enjoying the journey, have a good time, yeah… Surround yourself with a good community and that’s it! That’s what it’s all about!

PUSH & PUSH HARDER INTENSIVES

Sara
Colorado, USA

I have been doing handstands for almost four years, and I have been doing both the retreats so far (push and push harder) , almost through the second one and I’m from the US.

I have been loving the training here every day! Two classes a day plus eating and learning all the things and getting bendy and I’m much better at handstands.

What am I most proud of in training so far? Um… oooh.. Being able to not get mad at myself, for the times that I fail. I have not really been that frustrated with myself when I’m here, but when I do get frustrated I get the whole “it’s okay”, so that’s been nice.

My favourite thing about TADAH and their surroundings? Mm.. probably the people. I really like the people here and being around the nature and all the upcycling and everything and the chicken, even though his voice is just terrible. I still like him (laughter) he’s cool.

What am I going to take back from this retreat in training? Self confidence and self love (laughter), and uh, a lot more like things to work on and understanding where people are and how to communicate these things. So yeah…
