What We Teach in HSF Online Coaching
HSF Online Coaching focuses on skills from our beginner and intermediate curriculum. This includes:
- Getting off the wall and achieving your first freestanding handstand
- Improving your consistency in kicking up into handstand
- Safely bailing and exiting handstands
- Building endurance for 30-60 second handstand holds
- Leg shapes on two arms like the tuck, straddle, diamond, and pike
- Strength and coordination for the press to handstand
- Leg and shoulder flexibility to improve quality and ease for all levels of handbalancing
You’ll choose which of these skills you’d like to focus on. As you advance through your preferred focus, the comprehensive nature of our programming will build your capacities towards all of these focuses – building a solid foundation for switching focus, or moving on to advanced handbalancing skills.
In addition to your main handbalance routine, you will be able to choose a bonus module every month for variety. These bonus modules include working on learning to balance with handstand blocks, beginning to build strength for the handstand push-up or gaining flexibility for Mexican handstands, for example.
You will also have access to a library of handbalance and flexibility information, which will continually be updated with relevant knowledge! And just like with our standalone online programs, you’ll receive skill, strength, and flexibility programming to build both the physiological and coordinative adaptations for your handbalancing aspirations.
How Does HSF Online Coaching Work?
After you join the monthly subscription and get setup on the HSF TrueCoach app, we’ll send you an assessment to film and submit. Based on your assessment video submission and training goals, we’ll assign you the appropriate training blocks for your ability level for a 6 week training cycle. You’ll also choose which bonus module you’d like to add in at this time. At the end of each training cycle, you’ll resubmit an assessment video and your coach will adjust your training blocks accordingly. At the end of your training cycle you’re also welcome to shift your training focus, such as switching from leg shapes to the press. This is also when you’d switch your bonus module.
Throughout your training with us you can always submit videos footage of exercises for form feedback, or DM our coaches with questions through the TrueCoach app. If for whatever reason you wish to cancel your subscription, you can do so at any time and rejoin in the future by simply signing up again.

Your Handbalancing Instructors
Emmet
Emmet Louis is a renowned flexibility and mobility coach. Over the last ten years he has been working on and developing his “Modern Methods of Mobility” syllabus, which he teaches in seminars worldwide. He’s equally at home teaching people who can’t touch their toes all the way to contortion levels of flexibility. His main focus with his adult students is to teach and develop skills that are normally considered things that can be acquired only as children, and to show that these can be achieved in a safe and efficient manner. This includes advanced acrobatics, flexibility and high levels of bodyweight strength.
Mikael
Mikael Kristiansen is a contemporary circus artist specializing in handbalancing. He has a background as a bboy and has a Bachelor in Circus Arts from DOCH, Stockholm. Mikael specialised in the discipline of handbalancing at the age of 23 after being a breakdancer for several years. Since completing his education at DOCH, he has toured around the world performing, as well as teaching workshops targeted towards a range of skill levels, from absolute beginners to those trying to learn the most advanced handbalancing skills.
Isaac
Isaac started training handstands as an adult during university, starting training with Emmet in 2016. After dipping his toes in several physical practices such as capoeira, olympic weightlifting and rock climbing, he found handbalancing the most rewarding practice and has been consistently training handbalancing for 3 years now. You will not only find Isaac as a model many of our programs, but is also a seasoned online coach and is part of the admin team behind Handstand Factory.
Ludwig
After studying with Emmet for about one and a half years he was asked if he wanted to join the M3 team for online flexibility coaching as well as modeling for programs and assisting at the M3 Seminars. He has a background in parkour/movement and strength training, which he has been teaching for almost 10 years and still practices regularly along with handbalancing and acrobatics. He’s now joined the HSF team, expanding his online coaching offerings to handstands too!
Nick
Nick started working with us during his time at the Circus University of Codarts, which he recently graduated. Whilst performing was always fun for him it quite naturally became clear that he wanted to use his time to become an experienced and knowledgable coach for strength, flexibility, and acrobatics. After having spent the last four years developing his personal skills as an acrobat in circus school he is very happy to be now shifting focus to helping others get the most out of their training.

FAQ
I already own your Online Programs, is Online Coaching worth joining?
We wrote the Online Programs to be comprehensive to solo train your way to a skill, but if you’ve struggled with sticking to our programming or have questions about your technique – that’s where online coaching would be a great supplement to your handstand training. With the workout tracking and ability to direct message our coaches, we’ll be able to keep you accountable and progressing towards your goals!
We also realize due to the breadth of our programs, they can be a bit overwhelming. With HSF Online Coaching, you’ll only be assigned a training block appropriate for your current ability level. No need to sort through self assessments or try out different programming levels from our programs – our coaches will remove the guesswork for you!
I'm Totally New To Handstands, is this too advanced for me?
Not at all! We have programming specifically designed to get you strong and comfortable with being upside-down on your hands! All we ask if you to be confident to lift your hips overhead, and have healthy enough shoulders and wrists to bear bodyweight.
I'm already pretty good at handstands, what's in online coaching for me?
Getting a straight handstand is just the entry point for the wide world of handbalancing. Depending on your inclinations, you can either explore the artistic route and learn leg shapes and transitions or pursue the strength route with the press to handstand – both directions are covered in HSF Online Coaching.
Do I need equipment to join HSF online coaching?
The only equipment we require is an open floor and a wall you can kick up to. We recommend that the floor be firm enough to help you rebalance, thick carpet can make balancing your handstands much more difficult.
What is TrueCoach?
TrueCoach is the coaching app we have chosen which allows us to assign your training, correspond with you, and review your video footage. While your subscription is managed on our website in the Members Area, your week-to-week training will all be in the TrueCoach app.
Is HSF online coaching follow along videos?
No, while all of our exercises have accompanying videos, you do not follow the training in real time. The video for each exercise contain explanations and demos, with valuable cues and insights. Instead what you will receive is a strength-training style program list, with reps and sets assigned to days of the week.
